Established in May, 2008 the East side Neighborhood Organization and its resdents is a progressive community that places strong emphasis on preserving family values and developing a cooperative spirit between public and private sectors. Eastside’s rich history fosters community pride while consistently focusing on the need for flexibility in matters of social economic growth and change. East side organization is dedicated to accepting challenges by encouraging growth through innovative incentives and solutions.
The East side Neighborhood Council is a subset of Unity CDC. A functional area that will develop, nurture and grow grass roots local neighborhood organizations within Joliet Districts 4 & 5. Unity CDC Neighborhood Council currently has about ten active local neighborhood organizations, most located in it’s more affluent and under-served ethnic areas.
• Purpose: To develop, nurture, and grow strong, positive relationships among citizens, businesses and government in our local neighborhood organizations.
• Mission: To bring together a changing community with an economically diverse population by spurring development of affordable residential housing, creating vibrant and healthy commercial corridors, increase jobs, better education, increase transportation, enhance education and recreation while improving the delivery of exiting services to under served populations.
Additional Focus for East Side Neighborhood Council is: • Build a circle of relationships between: *Neighbors *Neighborhoods *City
• Proactive and productive
Our primary focus areas are; Housing, Transportation, Recreation Retail & Industrial Development, Land Use, and Human Capital.
To this end, Unity CDC will reactivate several dormant organizations, located in needy areas, and start from the ground up with new organizations.
