HOMEWORK HELP CENTER PROGRAM DETAILS
Objectives:
To increase literacy and promote academic excellence by providing homework help assistance for youth, ages 6
to 18 years in the 4th and 5th District of Joliet.
To provide tools and resources for parents, students and teachers to ensure successful transition in school.
To improve self esteem through participation in recreational activities and to promote healthier children through
providing nutritious meals to reduce instances of childhood obesity.
To provide a safe environment for vulnerable youth and provide alternatives to drugs, violence and gang activities.
ACADEMICS- Five certified volunteers for the academic homework portion to utilize a hands on approach with
daily classroom assignments that are sanctioned by the parents and teachers. This portion of the academics
will be one hour. All volunteers must meet the criteria for the homework help site volunteer contract. (See Exhibit
A)
FOOD PROGRAM:
Participants will receive a snack upon arrival and a hot dinner with milk two hours later. This will be provided daily
to all students in the program.
• ISBE Certified Meals
• Meals meet all state and government regulations
• Certified Cooks by the State of Illinois
• Food program will be monitored twice a year by the state
RECREATION- Each site will have the opportunity to have two to eight volunteers for the recreational activities that
will last for one hour. Some of the recreational activities will be as follows:
• Board Games
• Dodge Ball
• Baseball
• Basketball
• Jumping Rope
SPECIALTY RECREATION- These activities will be sponsored once a week by various outside sources:
• Arts and Crafts
• Karate
• Dance Classes
• Singing
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES:
