Share The Spirit kicks off with a 30
Christmas Tree display. John King,
President, Southside Neighborhood
Association says the 30 trees were
donated by local businesses. King
says, this display was constructed by
local contractors. The display at the
corner of McDonough St. & Chicago
St. was culminated by engaged
residents decorating, singing carols
while staying warm with hot chocolate

AMERICAN RED CROSS and UNITY Partners with
Firestoppers Program
Unity CDC has partnered with the American Red
Cross Team Firestopper program. Unity is part of a
team that is working to stop fires before they spark!
The programs works to educate adults and children
about fires and even include qualifying homes
receiving a free fire disaster kit. Another goal is to
reach as many people as possible in one short year
with our preparedness
programs. This involves two facets: Doing in house
safety visits and sponsoring a fire safety fair. Unity
has participated in both. "In sept 2009,35 Joliet
residents received the free fire disaster kits. Recently,
on February 14, 2010, 60 additional Joliet families
received the kits after attending a firestopper fair.

including our adult sponsors (Debra Summers, John
King, Deanna Beckley & Erica Wood-Bedi. The
National Hook-Up of Black Women, Unity CDC,
